Wish I Could Work At a Vet Hospital

I wish I could afford to work at a vet hospital while pursuing my pre vet….but the hours and pay are terrible for vet techs. I left my job as a vet tech to take a job at a hotel because of the amazing pay and benefits. I was working third shift for little to nothing, I couldn’t support my family.

It would be amazing it the vet industry got a boost.

Stepmoming is hard

Here is some quotes about being a step mom, bio moms, and well how to handle it. Hopefully you can relate or at least get a good laugh.

"it's so nice to relax after walking on eggshells for so long" - a survival of a #narcissist:

Deadbeat moms say things like "I miss my kids so much" but hasn't called in weeks & complains if they aren't available the day & moment she finally calls

And the most important of them all!

Christmas Eve…Self Care

Today is Christmas Eve….I am at work until 3pm…..my thoughts? Oh well, lets make some money. There is no reason for me to be upset about having to work today, we don’t get my youngest till this evening late anyway.

Self Care is my plan for the day.  I decided this when I arrived at work after being a nervous wreck on the interstate (pouring the rain, new rental car). I was panicky, and tense by 7am….whats wrong with me? I am alive and it is Christmas Eve, I should be thankful.

My plan for today:

  • Listen to Beach Vibes radio on Spotify
  • Leave work about 3pm
  • Swing by the Dollar Tree and find the last stocking stuffers I need for the husband
  • Tidy up the house
  • Wrap Presents
  • Take a bubble bath and have a glass of wine
  • Attend Christmas Eve high mass
  • Pick up my youngest

Yesterday my husband told me, he felt distant because of how tense we had both been…. I want this to change. Christmas should not be a tense time for couples but for your average every day couple it is. We are all struggling. We must all remember you cannot pour from an empty cup.

If anybody is like me, I do not know how to relax. My mind does not stop. This ends today.

I will take time to myself. I will relax and let the things that are out of my control be. I do not want to be tense on Christmas day. I will take time to take care of myself this evening and finish up last minute things while dancing around the house with my husband and son.

Well Here We Are

Well here we are. It has been 9 days since my last blog post. I do apologize, there has been a lot going on and stress levels are high.

It has been interesting only having one car. We are making progress with our claim though and got a rental car 2 days ago.

Mom #1 is also causing some issues with my oldest. There is some emotional baggage and mental issues that she is projecting on him. She has told him that she wants nothing to do with him and that my husband and I are bad influences. This is causing him a great deal of distress, is causing him to be distracted in school and caused him to loose his girlfriend. Keep in mind he has lived with us for the past 7-8 years with minimal contact with her.

I was selected for verification through EKU, so now I am fighting to get tax transcripts in and submitted in time. Most of the classes I need to take are full so I am still struggling to get into the correct classes. This is becoming a long drawn out process but the end result will be worth it.

Well that’s an update on life as of right now.

P.S 4 days to Christmas and the shopping still isn’t done!

Christmas Panic

12 days until Christmas. Most people are excited. I am in shear panic. We are not financially struggling for essentials, rent, food, utilities etc. Christmas always puts us in a panic. The kids are at the age of everything they want is over $40, we normally do not have the extra money saved up. This year everything was going great, until my car got totaled an we had to use christmas money to get our other car running.

We have bough 5 presents total since September. Our next pay day is December 22nd. Thankfully this paycheck will have no bills coming out. Just presents.

Even though christmas is not about gifts, I still believe the kids need something to open.

Be Thankful

When you here be thankful most people think “I am always thankful!” but are you really? Do you appreciate everything good in your life and even the bad?

Saturday evening on my way home from work after a 2nd shift, usually never work 2nd shift, I was T-Boned. A young guy in a brand new mustang ran a red light, and plowed into the side of my Camry as I was turning left. I spun out and came to a stop facing the wrong direction. The mustang is totaled, as is my car. The biggest miracle…no injuries. They could not find my passenger tire. It was gone, nowhere in the immediate area.

I was on my way home to my moms birthday dinner, frustrated that I had to work a 2nd shift. We also did not get the chance to go help my mother in law decorate since I had to work a 2nd shift.

I want to be mad.

Had I worked a 1st shift, we would have been on our way to my mother in laws. We could have got in an accident with my youngest in the car. I am thankful.

Had I been going a few mph slower, I would have been hit in the dead center of the car and potentially flipped. I am thankful.

I am walking and talking.  I am thankful.

The other guy is walking and talking. I am thankful.

A few months ago, we were rear ended on the interstate by a driver that fell asleep at the wheel. This was my wake up call.

I will be thankful. I will appreciate the little things in life. I will learn to see the good in even the bad situations.”Thank You” will be a phrase I use more. My loved ones will know how much I appreciate them.

There is good in every situation. Just look past the bad no matter how hard it may be.

Back In School

I have waited a over a year to receive my official letter inviting me to return to EKU. I have submitted appeal after appeal, many letters of recommendation and it finally happened. Yesterday evening when I got home, I had a thin envelope in the mailbox. If you have every been waiting on a college acceptance letter you know, the thin envelopes are bad. I opened it with dread and that  turned to shock and relief. I was invited back under academic probation since my current GPA is right on the cusp of good standing. I have one semester to get my GPA above a 2.0. I register for my classes Monday!

Returning to school will be a financial struggle, as I will be going from working 40hrs a week to only working 24hrs a week. I will be working Monday, Wednesday, Friday with classes on Tuesday and Thursday. I have the option of working the weekend as well to bring me to 40hrs.  I learned from my last time in college and working that I cannot do that and maintain the GPA I want.  I would be overworked, stressed, tired and I will break. I need to have the weekends off to spend time with family and study.

My goal is to maintain a 4.0 GPA until I graduate. I wish to graduate with Magna Cum Laude which is a 3.7 – 3.89 GPA.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency established
In 1970, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency was established during the administration of President Nixon. Working with strong bipartisan support from Congress, earlier in the year, on 2 Jan 1970, he had been able to sign the National Environmental Policy Act, and significant environmental action was set in motion. Once the EPA was created, the federal government could set the lead to constrain the excessive pollution caused by industries unwilling to clean up their wastes and emissions. All residents of America, whether in towns, suburbs or wilderness areas, would benefit in the decades that followed. Sadly, Republican Presidents after Nixon failed to fully embrace the same vision, and in various ways their support fell short of the greatest possible benefits from EPA’s mission.«
Atomic chain reaction
Thumbnail - Atomic chain reaction
In 1942, the first self-sustained nuclear chain reaction was demonstrated in Chicago, Illinois. At the University of Chicago, Enrico Fermi and his team achieved the world’s first artificial nuclear chain reaction, in a makeshift lab underneath the University’s football stands at Stagg Field. Work on the experimental pile had begun on 16 Nov 1942. It was a prodigious effort. Physicists and staffers, working around the clock, built a lattice of 57 layers of uranium metal and uranium oxide embedded in graphite blocks. A wooden structure supported the graphite pile. The chain reaction was part of the Manhattan Project, a secret wartime project to develop nuclear weapons, which initiated the modern nuclear age. This was a discovery that changed the world.
China first lunar landing probe launched
In 2013, China launched the Chang’e-3 lunar probe, carrying the Jade Rabbit rover. The spacecraft headed into orbit and then on to the Moon. This was hoped to become the country’s first extraterrestrial landing craft, and a showcase for China’s rising technological abilities. The lift-off of the Long March-3B carrier rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in China’s southwestern Sichuan province was broacast live on the nation’s state television. The robot rover’s mission was to conduct geological surveys and investigate the Moon’s natural resources. Previously, China’s had put their Chang’e-1 into moon orbit (launched 24 Oct 2007) taking images and spectral analyses, and sent three astronauts on a 15 day mission orbitting the Earth (Jun 2013), during which their craft docked with an experimental space lab.« [The local launch time in China was 01:30 am, on 2 Dec 2013, corresponding to 17:30 GMT on 1 Dec in Britain.]
Atomic power station
In 1957, the first full-scale atomic electric generating station in the U.S. began operation in Shippingport, Pennsylvania -15 years to the day after Fermi’s experiment at the University of Chicago. The plant reached full power 21 days later, generating 60 megawatts of power for Pittsburgh. The Duquesne Light Co. of Pittsburgh built and operated the Shippingport plant on a site it owned on the Ohio River 25 miles away from Pittsburgh. The reactor plant was designed by the Westinghouse Electric Corporation in cooperation with the Division of Naval Reactors of the Atomic Energy Commission. President Dwight D. Eisenhower opened it on 26 May 1958, as part of his “Atoms for Peace” program. The Shippingport nuclear powerplant was retired in 1982.
